Wherever there are people in need of food and drink, clothing, housing, medicine, employment, education; wherever men lack the facilities necessary for living a truly human life or are tormented by hardships of poor health, or suffer exile or imprisonment, Christian Charity should seek them out and find them, console them with eager care and relieve them with the gift of help. This obligation is imposed above all on every prosperous person and nation.

The J.O.I.N. Staff/Volunteers serve two major functions:
1. Gather information and assess the needs of the neighbor
2. Then assist or make referrals to community agencies who can assist with their need.

Volunteer Opportunities
Each of our volunteers help us realize the mission, vision, and values of Mount Carmel Health System. Volunteers make an impact each day by providing invaluable services to our patients and visitors that we would not otherwise be able to provide. If you are interested in helping serve our patients and visitors, pursuing personal growth, continuing a lifetime of learning, or returning a kindness shown to you while you were a patient, Mount Carmel has a unique variety of volunteer opportunities to match your interests.

Days/Times Volunteers Needed
Our volunteers serve in various capacities throughout our hospital system, interacting with the patients, families, and visitors who come through our care sites each day. The available volunteer roles are dependent upon each hospital and your availability. All volunteers are required to complete a TB test, provide immunization records or complete immunization testing, and provide documentation of a flu vaccination during flu season.

Medical and religious exemption forms are approved on a case-by-case basis. The majority of our volunteer shifts are four (4) hours long and fall between 8:00AM – 4:00PM Monday through Friday.

There are limited opportunities on evenings and weekends. Please note that the use of artificial nail products, including gel or dipped polish, will limit the volunteer roles available to you.

Volunteer Coordinator
If you have any questions about volunteering at Mount Carmel or the process of becoming a volunteer, please contact the site at which you’re interested in serving.

Team Member
Kairos volunteers come from all walks and strata of life. They all share a desire to follow Christ's admonition of Matthew 25:36, "I was in prison and you visited me." If you feel God's call to minister to the incarcerated the female family member of someone incarcerated, as a part of a Kairos team, go to Where We Serve and contact the Advisory Council Chairperson to inquire about how you can get involved, or contact the Indiana State Chapter office to find out about qualification and training and to be put in touch with the local Kairos community. Not all team members serve inside correctional institutions. Kairos Outside weekends are usually held at church camps (and similar facilities)

Prayer Partner
All Kairos activities are covered with prayer. You can be a part of that prayer effort. Contact us! You can find many of our prayer vigils on a www.3dayol.org -Support Volunteer Each Kairos retreat weekend has opportunities for outside support, such as baking cookies, writing letters of support, or preparing meals. Get your church's Sunday school classes to color placemats for mealtime in prison.

Cookie Baker
We may need up to 5,000 dozen cookies for a typical Kairos weekend. Do the math... that's 60,000 cookies! Homemade cookies are a tangible expression of Christian love and an indication of God's concern for a group of people who seldom encounter either in the course of their daily lives. Your loving sacrifice will provide "bread" that shines the Light of God's Grace into the darkest corners of a prison unit. May God bless you for the gift of baking! https://kairosohio.org/involved.htm

Most of the organizations are still NOT accepting volunteers due to the pandemic. We advise to call the agency and ask them personally what volunteer opportunities they offer in these present times. We can still give the listing but call up first as many of most of the jobs are on hold.
