Divine Worship and Sacraments

The Office for Divine Worship supports the Bishop in his role as “chief liturgist” of the Diocese of Columbus.  Under his leadership, the Office serves as the primary resource for the Church of Columbus in liturgical and sacramental matters through the provision of:

  1. Facilitating prayerful worship within the Diocese through assisting parishes, schools, and other Catholic organizations to engage in diligent liturgical planning that promotes spiritually nourishing and uplifting liturgical celebrations.

  2. Providing formation opportunities for parishes, schools, and Catholic organizations within the diocese that enables the faithful to be “active participants” in the liturgical and sacramental life of the Church.

  3. Coordinating and planning diocesan wide celebrations of the liturgy that model prayerful and vibrant liturgies that celebrate the rich and diverse people of the Diocese (e.g. The Rite of Election/Call to Continuing Conversion, Chrism Mass, Neophyte Mass, etc.)

  4. Working with parishes to strengthen and implement structured and effective RCIA programs.

  5. Assisting the Bishop in policies and norms regarding the liturgical and sacramental life of the Diocese.
